The hope and challenge of using stem cells to treat Alzheimer's disease
Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease with hidden onset, which puts a heavy burden on the family and society. A variety of neuropathological changes lead to degeneration and death of a large number of neurons. Therefore, transplantation of exogenous stem cells to supplement neurons and repair damaged neural circuits may be a reasonable treatment strategy. This review introduces the research progress of stem cell therapy for Alzheimer's disease in animal models, and the human clinical trials in the treatment of AD,and also discuss the hope and challenges of stem cell therapy for Alzheimer's disease in the future.
