Abstract

Objective: To investigate the status of knowledge and attitudes of clinical nurses towards dementia. Methods: By convenience sampling, 217 nurses were selected and investigated by using Dementia Knowledge Assessment Tool Version 2(DKAT2) and Dementia Attitudes Scale (DAS). Results: The average DKAT2 score was 16.12±2.19, the average DAS score was 96.95±13.18. The comparison between groups showed that age and working time could affect the scores of knowledge, professional title and working time could affect nurses' attitude towards dementia. Multiple stepwise regression analysis showed that age could affect the scores of knowledge and attitude of nurses towards dementia (P<0.05). Multiple stepwise regression analysis showed that working time would affect the scores of dementia knowledge, professional title would affect the scores attitude towards dementia. Conclusion: Nursing staff are equipped with very few knowledge about dementia, but the attitude towards dementia is positive relatively. Dementia training should be strengthened to improve the knowledge of clinical nurses.
