Design Scheme of System Access and Converter Station of Nan'ao VSC-MTDC Demonstration Project

Abstract

Nan'ao VSC-MTDC Demonstration Project is the first VSC-MTDC project in the world.The design scheme of the system access and converter station is introduced.The sending converter stations, Jinniu station and Qing'ao station, are built at Nan'ao island while a accepting converter station, Shucheng station, is set up near Shucheng substation in the mainland.The wind power of the wind farms at Nan'ao island is sent out through DC lines of Qing'ao-Jinniu and Jinniu-Shucheng, and integrated into the AC system at Shucheng substation.In comparison of three grounding schemes, one of them is adopted, in which the △/Yn form is for transformer interconnection, and a grounding point with a neutral resistor in the Yn transformer side is chosen.According to the principles of clear function zoning, compact process, energy saving and coordination with the surrounding environment, the general electric layout plan of the converter station is designed.
