Analysis and Thinking on the “8·16” Jin’anqiao-Chuxiong Double-Circuit Lines’ Successive Faults

Abstract

On August 16, 2013, a single-phase permanent fault and a single-phase transient fault occurred successively on 500 kV Jin’anqiao-Chuxiong double-circuit lines. The second and third defense lines operated correctly and tripped the generators and lines, causing Jin’anqiao hydropower station splitted from the system finally. Based on the on-site record wave and simulation by BPA software, the actions of the second and third defense lines are analyzed in detail, and an optimization scheme is proposed. Moreover, since the similar question is common to the power grid, it is advised that the fault types of system risk evaluation be further improved to reduce the influence of the successive faults, and further research and implementation of defense scheme optimization according to the specific circumstance be carried out.
