Developing an animal husbandry management information system for scientific management of animal husbandry and rational utilization of grassland resources has become an urgent need in achieving efficient management and sustainable development of animal husbandry in semi-arid and semi-desert region. In view of combating grassland-desertification, this paper proposed a technical route and a practical way for developing the animal husbandry management information system (MIS) based on 3S technology. The objectives and principles for establishing the database of this system was elaborated. Meanwhile, the structure, technical feasibility of the system and system function was designed preliminarily. 3S technology develops rapidly, however, currently there was no developed MIS for the area of grassland animal husbandry management, this study demonstrated a realistic significance for the final establishment of this animal husbandry MIS in the future.
