Factors of Influencing Nitrate Accumulation in Flue-cured Tobacco Leaf

Abstract

The nitrate and nitrite are precursor to form tobacco-specific nitrosamines (TSNA) in tobacco leaves. Factors that influence the precursor of TSNA could affect the accumulation of TSNA. Therefore，it is great important to decrease the TSNA content through controlling the accumulation of nitrate and nitrite in production of high quality and low harmful tobacco leaves. Some key factors that influence nitrate accumulation in flue-cured tobacco leaf were analyzed. Effects of different genotypes, leaf positions, environmental conditions, nutrient elements, and flue curing techniques on nitrate accumulation were summarized.
