Rattus norvegicus in Farmhouses in Kashgar Area: Morphological Characteristics

Abstract

To supplement ecological data of brown rat population in farmhouses in the southern region of Xinjiang and to provide a theoretical basis for predicting population dynamics and implementing scientific control measures, a standardized trapping protocol integrating fixed-point snap-trap deployment and live-cage trapping was implemented across rural households in Kashgar Prefecture in 2019-2025. A total of 718 morphologically valid specimens (comprising both sexes) were collected. Five core biometric parameters, including body weight, head-body length, tail length, hind foot length, and ear height, were measured with precision, and intergroup comparisons (by sex, age class, and season) were conducted using appropriate statistical analyses. The results showed that body weight in the sampled population exhibited a unimodal, approximately normal distribution, with 83.43% of individuals falling within the 40.01-270.00 g range; the modal interval (80.01-240.00 g) accounted for 60.45% of all specimens. Age structure was dominated by adult group I, adult group II, and elderly individuals, collectively representing 69.47% of the sample. No statistically significant sexual dimorphism was observed for any of the five measured morphometric traits (all P>0.05). In contrast, highly significant differences were detected across age classes (all P<0.01), and seasonal variation exerted a statistically significant influence on body size parameters (P<0.05). Under shared environmental conditions in rural Kashgar households, male and female R. norvegicus exhibit comparable growth trajectories and convergent somatic development with advancing age. Seasonal environmental fluctuations significantly modulate growth and morphological maturation. These findings establish a quantitative baseline for future investigations into the seasonal reproductive characteristics of R. norvegicus in rural Xinjiang and provide empirical support for spatially and temporally refined rodent control interventions.

褐家鼠是黔中地区农舍的优势种害鼠。明确不同年龄组、不同季节本地区褐家鼠的体型特征,既可以丰富褐家鼠种群生态研究资料,也可为预测其种群数量动态,进而为制定科学的防治策略提供依据。本研究于1986—2019年期间,采用逐月夹捕法捕获农舍区害鼠,共捕获了1746只褐家鼠。测量捕获鼠体重、体长、尾长、后足长、耳高等体型指标,分析了褐家鼠这些指标的雌雄、年龄、季节间的差异。结果显示,黔中地区农舍褐家鼠种群体重主要集中在30.01~160.00 g之间,占种群个体总数的83.62%,种群中亚成年组和成年Ⅰ组个体占总鼠数的69.76%。雌雄鼠间体重、体长、尾长、后足长及耳高无显著差异;不同年龄组这些体型特征指标差异极显著;不同季节间这些体型指标也有差异。由此可见,在相同环境条件下,褐家鼠雌雄鼠生长速度一致,且随着年龄的增长而增加,季节变化对褐家鼠的生长有一定的影响。

探究农区褐家鼠种群形态特征及繁殖参数的年龄变化规律,为其种群数量预测及防控提供依据。收集统计分析贵州省三都县2012—2024年农区鼠情监测捕获的褐家鼠标本数据,统计不同年龄组的形态特征及性比、雌鼠怀孕率及平均胎仔数、雄鼠睾丸下降率、繁殖指数和肥满度等指标。结果表明,三都县农区褐家鼠不同年龄组外部形态特征差异极显著,随着年龄的增长,各项指标不断增加,当年龄生长到成年Ⅱ组后,尾长、后足长、耳高增长缓慢或停止增长。不同年龄组雌鼠怀孕率及胎仔数、雄鼠睾丸下降率、繁殖指数等繁殖参数存在显著差异,幼年组个体无繁殖能力,亚成年组个体少量参与繁殖,主要繁殖个体为成年Ⅰ组、成年Ⅱ组、老年组,3个年龄组总体怀孕率为49.62%,平均胎仔数为8.26只,总体睾丸下降率为90.45%,总体繁殖指数为1.7439。不同年龄组肥满度有一定差异,从幼年组到成年Ⅰ组呈下降趋势,从成年Ⅰ组到老年组呈上升趋势。

目的:研究鄂尔多斯沙地草场小毛足鼠种群的年龄鉴定及组成。方法:1991~1995年每年4~10月在沙地草场6种生境内,利用直线夹日法调查,捕获鼠按常规称重、测量、解剖、称其胴体重,利用胴体重将5年的标本按年度、雌雄分别作次数分配,鉴定种群年龄。结果:划分成4个年龄组,胴体重分别为幼年组≤7.0g,亚成年组7.1~9.0g,成年一组9.1~12.0g,成年二组≥12.1g。小毛足鼠种群年龄组成的年度和季节变化明显。结论:利用胴体重鉴定小毛足鼠年龄的方法比较准确,且简单方便,便于在现场操作和应用。
