Study on the Panicle Characters of Several Large Panicle Hybrid Rice Combinations and Their Effects on Yield

Abstract

Three new large-panicle type hybrid rice combinations Teyou70,Gang501,Teyou124 were used to study the large-panicle character and its influence on other yield characters. Results showed that the yield of the large panicle combination was higher when the combination's rate of primary branches and secondary branches was higher. Because the setting percentage and 1000-grain weight in the spilekets on primary branches are higher than those on secondary branches, and its grain sink was coordinated to source with more spilekets、more setting spikelets and more setting spileketes weight per unit leaf area. Additionally, it was pointed that it would be easier to get higher yield rice combination by selecting the characters of longer panicle length, more primary branches and lower grain density.
