Advances in Wheat Gene Transformation and Its Application in Breeding

Abstract

Great progress of applying transformation technology to improve wheat characters such as productivity, quality, resistances to diseases, insects and adverse conditions have been made in recent years. The recent progress in wheat genetic transformation technology, the main methods of wheat transformation, the factors influencing the transformation efficiency,the target genes widely used today, application of report gene, selective and marker genes,expression and regulation of exogenous gene are discussed in this paper. The remaining problems and countermeasures, potential in wheat breeding field, the task of the research on wheat transformation in the future are also pointed out.
