Abstract

A review with many refs. is given on the occurrence and distribution of saponins in Medicago, the result show about 60 saponins compounds in Medicago, and all these compounds were oleanane triterpene saponins. The biol. actitivty of Medicago saponins such as hemolysis, antifungal activity, membrane activity, and toxicity of zanhic acid tridesmoside for animals were described.
