Abstract

Zn hyperaccumulators have the ability to hyper-accumulate zinc in their shoots. Currently considering, one detoxic mechanism may exist in Zn hyperaccumulators, and Zinc was absorbed, transported and accumulated through a particular metabolic process. The processes include Zinc ion influx across root plasma membrane, translocation within the root symplasm and sequestration, long distance translocation in the xylem. This review summarizes the reported Zn hyperaccumulators so far in the world. Meanwhile, biological mechanisms of Zinc absorption and accumulation are expatiated on three aspects in tolerance, uptake and translocation. Several prospects for the future work were also discussed in this paper.
