Shaan 253, a new wheat variety with high kernel yield, strong-gluten quality and earlier maturity, was developed from cross of Shaan 229/Shaan 213 through pedigree method by Wheat Research Institute, Northwest Sci-Tech University of Agriculture and Forestry. It shows good quality characters, such as longer development time and longer stability time. Useful conclusion can be drawn from its successful breeding: It is possible to combine good quality characters with high kernel yield potential; Two parents should be complementary each other on main quality characters and be multiple on its genetic background; The breeding of good quality wheat variety must rely on essential and valid quality characters testing means.
