Determination of the Isomers of Vitamin E by Normal Phase High Performance Liquid Chromatography

Abstract

Tocopherols and tocotrienols were separated and determined by NP-HPLC to establish a simple and accurate method to determine the contents of the vitamin E isomers. The sample was purified and then separated on the Zorbax NH2 column. The mobile phase consisted of hexane and isopropanol. The detection was at 292nm. Seven isomers of vitamin E:α-tocopherol、α-tocotrienol、β-tocopherol、γ-tocopherol、γ-tocotrienol、δ-tocopherol and δ-tocotrienol were identified and calculated. The results showed that the corelation coefficients were from 0.9993 to 0.9998. The method suggested the high degree of precision, stability and the repeatability, and the recoveries were from 97.0% to 102.1%. This method was simple, accurate and suitable for the analysis of vitamin E in the whole berry oil of sea buckthorn.
